Breast Surgery

Breast Cancer, can be a grueling experience for any woman undergoing its treatment, and can have physical and emotional effect on the body. Surgery can be one of the first steps to treat the breast cancer. It may be done to remove the cancerous tissues from the breast(partially or completely), can be used to determine whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, and relieve symptoms of advanced cancer.

Breast Conserving Surgery: It is a procedure to remove a lump or only the part of the breast which contains cancer.

Mastectomy: This is a procedure to remove the entire breast, along with some surrounding tissues. Some women prefer to get a double mastectomy done, in which both breasts are removed.

Non Cancerous Lump Removal: If the removed lump or tumor is non cancerous for example if a patient has a 'fibroadenoma of the breast' is removed, then the procedure is called lumpectomy.

Lumpectomy is done as an outpatient surgery most of the time. The patient is given general anesthesia or local anesthesia and the procedure takes approximately an hour.
