Endocrine Surgery

Dr. Kumar also provides surgical treatment of endocrine glands like the thyroid and para thyroid glands.

A. Endoscopic Thyroidectomy

Endoscopic Thyroidectomy is the most preferred kind of minimal invasive surgery for its cosmetic benefits. The surgery can be performed through transoral, axillary or breast.

After putting patient to sleep three incisions of 5mm -10mm are made in axilla/breast, through which special laparoscopic instruments are placed and space is created below the skin on the neck. Neck muscles are separated and thyroid gland is removed with the help of advanced laparoscopic instruments. Neck muscles are stitched back and all the three cuts are stitched using absorbable stitches.

B. Endoscopic Parathyroidectomy

Endoscopic Parathyroidectomy is commonly used to treat hyperthyroidism. The parathyroid gland controls the calcium level in the blood. The surgeon will make three small cuts of 5mm to 10mm in the axilla or breast and a space is created below the skin in the neck, and the muscles are separated. The parathyroid gland is identified and removed in an endobag so that the patient does not get a scar on the neck and the cuts are then stitched with dissolvable stitched.
